Fair Housing and New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD) was rooted in the Civil Rights Act of 1866. It continues to evolve as times change and more distinctive classes arise (such as gender preference, disability etc.) It is an answer to the political and social turmoil experienced by different stakeholders in the real estate industry. As a real estate agent, it is best practice to familiarize oneself to the fundamentals of this law to avoid legal implications. The real estate agent professional and its office, must adhere to both anti-discrimination in Employment and Housing procedures. He or she must be responsible enough to distinguish correct and incorrect practices to efficiently process transactions and deals.
